Last Night In Uganda

We just got back to Kampala after an exciting two days up in the Northwest - Murchison National Park.  On the way up there we stopped at the Rhino sanctuary and saw six of the seven surviving rhino's in Uganda.  The smallest one is named Obama and is the first Rhino born in Uganda in 28 years.  It was pretty cool. 
We then went up to the National Park and crossed the Victoria Nile on the last ferry of the day at 7:00 PM at night.  We stayed overnight at the Paraa Lodge, a pretty swank place on the northern bank of the Nile.
At 6:30 AM we headed out on our Safari drive - we were joined by a guide and were driven by Abdal (our driver for the past few weeks).  We managed to see all kinds of animal including giraffes, antelopes (about 6 different kinds) Cape Buffalos, an elephant from a great distance, warthogs and the icing on the cake - a couple of lions (male and female) really close up. 
After lunch at the Paraa Lodge we went back down to the river and went on a three and a half hour trip upriver to the Murchison Falls - the Falls were okay,  but the animals were spectacular.  Thousands of hippos, lots of crocodiles and some great visits with elephants who came down to the water to drink and bath. 
It was a long day but we all saw so many different species, all in the wild! 
One group of elephants took exception to how close we were and kind of charged us - I caught it on video.  Eric was very afraid...
After we finished with the boat trip we headed back up the road to a very rustic lodge with bunkhouses.  We had a good meal and then went to bed.  Even though it was just a bunkhouse, most of us had the best sleeps of our journey, it was nice and cool.  Our driver Abdal slept in the bunk above mine and his alarm went off at ten to six and then again at six.  His ring tone is the sound of rushing water.  Needless to say, I was up shortly after that.
After breakfast, we went Chimpanzee tracking which included a twenty minute walk into the rain forest.  We saw lots of chimps, but they were way up in the forest canopy so our pictures won't be that good.  Nevertheless, we had an awesome experience.
Great news!  Marjorie is now walking on her foot.  She was of course unable to take in the Chimp tracking, but got everything else in.  Her foot is healing very well. 
We drove back to Kampala and are resting and getting ready for our trip home.  Our plan is to get a good nights rest and then spend the day shopping.  Our plane leaves just after midnight local time.
This will probably be the last blog update until we get home.
These last few days have been very good, experiencing nature and Uganda's wild kingdom.  We were talking about how nice it has been to do this, but nothing will ever hold a candle to our Ogooma experience.  Lions and elephants are cool to see, but it is the kids and the joy about the water that we will never forget.
To our loved ones, we are looking forward to seeing you shortly.  We miss you all so much...
